Promote diversity, rights and gender equity

KHANA is dedicated to eliminating discrimination, with a strong focus on marginalized groups. They are well respected for their work promoting and improving the rights of key populations such as Female Entertainment Workers, Men Who Have Sex with Men, Transgender women, people who use/inject drugs, people living with HIV, people living with TB, and young people.

Harm Reduction Advocacy in Asia (HRAsia) Project The HRAsia project aims to eliminate barriers and strengthen the available services for people who inject drugs (PWID) in Asia. Key mechanisms have involved increasing the knowledge of local law enforcement officials of drug use, improving the referral process to facilitate ease of access to health facilities, and working with the Club of the Cambodia Journalists to create a code of conduct for reporting on drug use.

The ‘Support Don’t Punish’ Campaign

This social media campaign aimed to reduce stigma and misconceptions on drug use. Key figures from the film and music industry championed the message. Therefore, the campaign reached harder to access populations.

Female empowerment through TB projects

Gender equity is an important part of KHANA’s strategic plan. Within the TB projects, this involves increasing female engagement with services and providing job opportunities for the female TB community.

Fostering an Enabling Environment

KHANA works closely with the National AIDS authority and relevant government bodies to create an enabling environment for HIV, TB and effective health responses. KHANA also attends National TB Program meetings at national and sub-national levels to raise issues, address challenges, and strengthen communication.

Cambodia Gay Pride Outreach

During the 10 days of Cambodia Gay Pride, KHANA and Men’s Health Cambodia co-organized HIV testing for Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) and transgender individuals. Educational material, condoms, and lubricants were also distributed and paired with counseling to ensure effectiveness.

HIV Campaigns for Key Populations

KHANA has multiple campaigns promoting HIV awareness among young people, women and girls, and others. For instance, KHANA joined the HIV awareness and HTC campaign at the Valentine’s Day event, Pride Week, International Youth Day, UN Day, and World AIDS day. At these events, many at-risk groups were provided with education about sexually transmitted infections and provided with the opportunity to undergo HIV and syphilis testing. KHANA also ran events for World TB Day across the country.

‘Know Your Rights’ Induction Workshop

KHANA organized this workshop for people living with TB to learn about a rights-based approach TB response, community, rights, gender, and key populations. The workshop involved executive committee members, peer support group leaders, village health support groups, local TB organizations and local health management.

WISDOM Project

KHANA trained LGBT people, from different provinces, to become LGBT activists in their local communities. The training introduced issue identification, data collection, data analysis, local advocacy and community education. Other individuals were educated on health and HIV, social protection services, employment and education, legal aid support and leadership skills.
