Cambodia annually holds the International Children’s Day on Sunday, 1 June 2014. The Day is treated as a national holiday of Cambodia. As June 1 falls on Sunday, the additional holiday is given on June 2 (Monday).
The Day was established in 1954 to protect children working long hours in dangerous conditions and allow all children access to an education. The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed June 1 to be International Children's Day in 1925. It is usually marked with speeches on children's rights and wellbeing, and other events involving or dedicated to children.
